Today’s world is hectic and stressful. Whether it is due to a high-pressure role at work, juggling a busy family life, or simply having too many commitments, we all have a lot of demands on our time. Being under pressure for a long period of time can take its toll, leading to feelings of irritability and exhaustion. Here are our top 10 tips to help with stress management for employees…
1. Manage your time
If you are juggling a lot of separate sources of stress, write them all down. Work out what you can do, and when, without being over-optimistic. If there are things that you simply cannot complete in the required time-frame, pass that responsibility back to someone else.
2. Exercise
As is so often the case, healthy eating and exercise go hand-in-hand. All you need is 20 minutes a day of intense exercise. This will boost your metabolism and make you feel less stressed more capable of getting all those other tasks completed.
3. Meditate
This doesn’t have to involve incense or chanting (although it can do). Simply set aside five or ten minutes a day to sit in a quiet room, close your eyes and concentrate on you. It is the perfect exercise to help you re-focus your mind.
4. Have Fun
Anything that makes you smile will help to fight stress. So meet up with friends, enjoy a hobby, and be silly sometimes. Then you can get back to responsible life with a positive attitude.
5. Laugh often
Laughter has the ability to lift your mood no matter what it is that is getting your down. Watch a funny programme, go and see a comedian or try a laughter yoga workshop. Laughter can heal the soul. Learn more about the benefits of laughter here.
6. Accept the Unchangeable
Sometimes issues make you feel stressed, but there is nothing you can do to fix them. Try to let go of these things that bring you down, and accept them as something you have no control over.
7. Eat Mindfully
What you put into your body can have a huge effect on how you handle stress. Trading sugar, caffeine and alcohol for fruit and vegetables will fuel your body, lifting your energy levels and motivation.
8. Avoid Unnecessary Stress
If there are certain people in your life who only ever bring your stress, take steps to avoid them, or at least limit the time you spend with them.
9. Have a Massage
If you can find the time, a massage is the perfect way to relax while someone literally kneads, pummels and rubs the stress out of you. You will be surprised at how rejuvenated you feel afterwards. If you’re struggling to fit an hour massage into your day, look into the options of 10 minute rejuvenating massages in the workplace.
10. Attend a Stress Management Workshop
Stress Management Workshops can be the perfect way to learn how to recognise the symptoms of stress in yourself and others. And, you can learn how to deal with them before they become bigger issues.
