Winter Wellbeing Reset:
Habits to Support Your Mood, Energy and Resilience
At certain points in the year, many of us notice a dip in energy, focus, and mood. You might feel more tired than usual, less motivated to exercise, reaching for comfort foods, or relying a little more on caffeine to get through busy days. We may feel in need of a wellbeing reset.
Interestingly, most of us already know what supports wellbeing.
When asked what helps boost mood, immunity, and resilience, people usually list things like eating well, staying hydrated, getting enough sleep, moving more, spending time with friends and family, and taking moments to relax.
If we know what helps, why can it feel so hard to actually do these things consistently?
The answer lies not in a lack of motivation or discipline, but in how we experience life day to day.
Our habits are influenced by many factors, including workload, stress levels, emotions, beliefs, physical state, and how tired we feel. When life feels busy, overwhelming, or draining, our brain naturally looks for comfort, ease, and quick relief. This is part of our subconscious wiring designed to conserve energy and avoid discomfort.
This is why relying on willpower alone rarely works long term.
Instead, lasting change happens when we understand how habits form and work with our natural tendencies rather than fighting against them.

What actually helps habits stick?
Research into behaviour change shows a few key principles.
🟢 1 Repetition
Repetition builds new neural pathways in the brain. On average, it takes around two months for a new habit to start feeling more automatic.
🟢 2 Build healthy habits into the day
Habits tend to stick more easily when they feel simple, manageable, and rewarding, rather than another task on the to-do list.
🟢 3 Emotion
Emotion also plays a big role. We naturally repeat behaviours that make us feel good or bring a sense of relief. When we connect habits to how we want to feel, rather than just what we think we should do, change often feels more natural.
🟢 4 Self-compassion
Self-compassion matters too. Being kind to yourself when you fall off track supports consistency far more than self-criticism ever does.
Start small and build from there
The most effective place to start isn’t by trying to change everything at once. Choose one small habit that feels most relevant to you right now.
Make it simple. Make it realistic. Link it to how you want to feel.
Over time, small consistent actions build momentum, confidence, and lasting change.

A reset doesn’t mean starting over
A wellbeing reset doesn’t need to be completely overhauling your life.
Simply pausing, gaining clarity, and gently setting up habits that support how you want to feel, physically and mentally can create the most impact.
When habits feel easier and more aligned with what matters to you, wellbeing stops being something you have to force and starts becoming something that naturally fits into everyday life.
In the Wellbeing Reset workshop, we explore a simple framework that helps make positive changes feel easier and more sustainable, so healthy habits can become second nature rather than a constant effort.
